QUETTA, June 15 (APP) Federal minister for housing and works, Rehmatullah Kakar said on Sunday that the government would soon start work on construction of houses in Balochistan and NWFP under Prime Minister Housing Scheme (PMHS) aimed at providing the houses to each low-paid government employee at low cost after their retirements.
Speaking at a meeting held here under his chairmanship to review the matters relating to implementation of the PMHS in Balochistan, the minister for housing said: “Work on execution of the housing scheme has already been started in Punjab, Sindh and the federal capital city.”
He said that the government was determined to provide low-cost houses to each government employee upon their retirements in the country. In this regard the government will not earn any benefit. He said that it was a challenge for the government to construct hundreds
of thousands of houses at low cost with availability of all sorts of facilities He said that a private sector had offerred land free of cost for implementation of the PMHS in Sindh which would facilitate the government for executing the scheme at low estimation in Sindh.
He said the government would implement the housing scheme with latest technology to protect the houses from earthquake in Balochistan as the province falls on seismic zone.
Rehmatullah Kakar said that the federal government will relegate more powers to the provincial governments for implementing the housing scheme in the country. The federal government will keep less power in its own control regarding the implementation of the scheme as it believed in power sharing with the provinces in the country.
He also asked the private sectors in Balochistan to lend cooperation to the government for executing the PMHS in the province.
He said that the federal government was contacting the international organizations and investors in order to involve them in implementing the PMHS in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Balochistan chief secretary Nasir Mehmood Khosa suggested the federal minister to construct houses instead of flats or apartments as the local people prefer to live in houses in the province.
The CS informed the federal minister that Balochistan government had arranged and earmarked land for implementing the PMHS in six districts of the province including the provincial capital.
He further suggested the minister to contact banks’ managements for cooperating with the government for executing the housing scheme in the province.
Nasir Khosa assured the minister that the provincial government would extend its all possible cooperation to the federal government for implementing the PMHS in the province. Besides, the provincial government will give its top priority to the implementation of the housing scheme in the province.
The participants of the meeting decided to construct houses instead of apartments and flats in Balochistan. They further decided that the government would include those housing schemes which were in their initial stages, in the PMHS in the province.
Additional chief secretary Balochistan, Ahmed Bakhsh Lehri informed the participants of the meeting that one thousand houses were being constructed for fishermen which were being completed in different phases in Gawadar.
Earlier, the federal secretary for housing and works briefed the participants of the meeting about the PMHS.
