Demand for Affordable Housing to Escalate in Vietnam


Vietnamese affordable housing sector is expanding at a considerable pace and holds a promising future during the next 2-3 years, says RNCOS.

The Vietnamese Housing Industry is a fast growing market that offers immense growth potential, as there is a huge housing shortage. Despite substantiate amount of supply and demand, the housing sector is still witnessing the significant presence of semi-permanent or temporary wooden houses without proper housing facilities. Additionally, the number of households is rising, which correspondingly is raising the housing requirements in the country. To meet the urgent requirement, a renowned focus on low-cost housing has been approached by government and concerned authorities, according to RNCOS’ recent report “Vietnam Housing Sector Forecast to 2015”.

The report forecasts the Vietnam’s housing requirement to grow with a CAGR of around 6% during 2012-2015. Much of the housing demand is expected to be inclined towards affordable housing owing to low affordability of people. Besides, one of the important reasons for the growth of affordable housing segment is an increasing number of low and mid-income groups in the country’s Tier I, II, and III cities. The government is also well aware of the fact that large mass of the society does not possess a house in Vietnam due to cost issue. Thus, they are encouraging developers to focus on affordable houses.
